ADDENDA - OTHER IDENTITIES?

Christopher Marlowe had, apparently, been a secret agent for several years, and this is now confirmed in considerable detail by the Le Doux documents. He also, naturally, would have needed to adopt a different identity after his supposed death, but Le Doux was around for only about a year. It was therefore unavoidable that, while searching for more facts about Le Doux and Marlowe, I would come across other names that cried out to be identified as further pseudonyms.

It is probably not possible for all of the following to be relevant, in fact, but all of them will, I suggest, repay being looked at further.

Click on the name itself for the full description:

1. WILLIAM (OR GUILLIAUM)
A 'French servant' of Anthony Bacon, known to have been with him in France for much of 1589-91.

2. WILLIAM HALL
An occasional agent of the Cecils between 1592 and 1603.

3. G. DELAMOTHE
Author of The French Alphabet, a French primer printed by Richard Field in 1592, just after Anthony Bacon returned to England.

4. MONTANUS
Arrived in England in May 1595, on a forged passport, complaining that he had not been given the money and safe conduct he had been promised.

5. FERRIES
A 'French fugitive', who owed much to Anthony Bacon, in England at the same time as Le Doux, and apparently connected with Marlowe's friend, the Earl of Northumberland.
